Kathryn (Winn) Buckley is the oldest sister, a wife and a mother to Briggs and Beau. Kathryn went through seven years of infertility, which included three artificial inseminations, five in-vitro fertilizations and has lived to tell the story. She has navigated the emotional process of an open adoption and has experienced the highs and lows of motherhood and marriage. Kathryn is an avid runner who has completed three marathons. Kathryn holds her MBA with an emphasis in Finance. She spent ten years working at the University of Phoenix as the Associate Vice President of Enrollment and Finance instructor. Kathryn’s goals include encouraging people to tell their story and motivating them to accomplish things they never dreamed possible. Kathryn believes that Nipples Optional will encourage women going through the ups and downs of life to believe if there is a will, there is a way. She knows first-hand what defeat feels like and what incredible success feels like and everything in between.
Bridget (Winn) Stillwell is a previvor. Bridget is the middle sister of three girls and just eighteen months younger than her older brother. Bridget soon become a registered nurse and then went on the achieve a Master’s in Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner degree. Bridget was the first of her four sibling to discover what she had always suspected, that she was in fact, a BRCA1 mutation carrier. Knowing her breast and ovaries had the great possibility steal the life that she loved so much, she took action very quickly and had her breasts removed at the age of 22. Soon after, she married a Chicagoan named Ryan. They dreamed of a large family so very quickly produced two miracle children. She says this because they lost the next four babies that they tried to bring into the world. In January 2018, Bridget underwent a prophylactic oophorectomy. Bridget currently resides in Overland Park, Kansas with her husband and children, Penelope and Abe. Bridget wants the message of their memoir to be simple. Take charge of your life, your health, and your happiness. Storms will undoubtedly pass through our lives. We must face those with hope, courage and strength.
Maureen (Winn) Boesen, the youngest of the three sisters, is a wife and a mother of two sons, Theodore and Charles, and a daughter, Susie. She holds a Bachelors in Marketing and Finance and a Master’s in Business Administration. Maureen currently works in Marketing for MBB Agency. In her free time, she enjoys cooking and running. She has completed two marathons with no plans to run another one. In 2008, Maureen found out she was a BRCA1 gene mutation carrier. She chose to have a prophylactic double mastectomy in October 2009 to hopefully prevent a breast cancer diagnosis. In addition, Maureen has battled generalized anxiety. She believes that when women are open and honest about their personal struggles, they can help each other overcome some of life’s most difficult challenges. Her mantra is to be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. She is optimistic that Nipples Optional will bring hope to the hopeless like she has felt so many times before.
